English Phonetics and Phonology
Mohammad B. Aghaei
This book is intended to give an introductory representation of the phonetics and phonology of the present-day English in a simple and descriptive way. It classifies and characterizes the phonetic features of the sounds mainly in two groups as vowel and consonants with the physiological mechanism of their articulation. It also describes the syllabification processes, the stress patterns of the simple and compounded words, and the phonological processes underlying a phonemic sequence. All these aspects offer a basic insight on the specifications of the sound system of a language for the students who do not have any previous knowledge on the phonetics and phonology. It also provides a primary and theoretical framework or guidance for those researchers who are interested in conducting a survey on the sound system of their own native or a foreign language in an advanced way.
