Knowledge of the structure and function of the body of healthy animals is a basic prerequisite to mastery of clinical and certain preclinical disciplines. The first step is study of the body according to its several organ systems, i. e., a division of the body into its different parts for systematic and detailed study. However, systematic anatomy is only one aspect of the study of practical anatomy for veterinary practice. Familiarity with both mutual interrelationships and positions of specific organs and structures is also essential. This synthesis of knowledge is the goal of students and teachers, and requires great efforts from both.
