Hegemony

The concept of hegemony forms a central part of a wider problematic which marks a new departure in social theory for the contemporary period, even though the idea has its roots in the nineteen~twenties and -thirties. Stated briefly, it can be said at this stage that hegemony means ‘moral and philosophical leadership’, leadership which is attained through the active consent of major groups in a society.
